NOTES

Inshore & Offshore Action

North Carolina Zoological Park - Randolph, NC

Inshore Fishing: Fishing in Wanchese’s inshore waters has been productive this month, with a variety of species making their presence known. Bluefish and Spanish Mackerel continue to bite aggressively, particularly along the shallower areas near the beaches. These fish are being caught on a mix of trolling and casting lures. Red Drum action is strong, with anglers finding success near the deeper channels and structure. Live bait such as mullet has been effective for targeting these prized catches.

Offshore Fishing: The offshore bite has been steady, with Mahi Mahi and Tuna leading the charge in deeper waters. Wahoo are also making an appearance, with some larger fish being reported from about 30 to 50 miles offshore. King Mackerel are still active in the Gulf Stream, providing anglers with plenty of action throughout the day. For those targeting Marlin, patience is key, but they are being found in the deeper areas of the Gulf Stream. Weather conditions are important to keep an eye on, as they can affect the availability of fish in these offshore areas.

Bottom Fishing: Bottom fishing enthusiasts are seeing good results with Black Sea Bass and Flounder in the nearshore waters. These species have been actively feeding in the cooler depths, providing solid catches for anglers using traditional bottom fishing methods.

Overall Conditions: The weather has been generally favorable for fishing, but the occasional passing cold front can cause brief disruptions. We recommend checking the weather forecast before heading out for the day. The water temperature has warmed up, which has triggered a lot of activity, especially inshore and offshore.

Tip for Anglers: For the best chances of success, early morning departures are key, as fish are most active during the cooler parts of the day. If you're targeting Tuna or Mahi Mahi, try trolling at varying depths to increase your chances of hooking these species.
